1. Users

Consider the impact of the migration on PLM users, including training needs, communication, and support.

Common Migration Approaches

The PLM migration approach you choose depends entirely on you, your processes, and business requirements. Each approach has its benefits. Carefully weighing your options will ensure you adopt the best methodology for your situation.

Big Bang Migration

This approach involves migrating your entire PLM system to your new platform or architecture in one go. This approach is suitable for small and simple systems that do not have many dependencies.

Phased Migration

This approach involves breaking your system down into smaller components and migrating each component in phases. This approach is suitable for larger and more complex systems that have many dependencies.

Parallel Migration

This approach involves running both your old and new systems simultaneously and gradually transferring functionality to your new one. This approach is suitable if your system needs to be highly available during the migration process.

Hybrid Migrations

This approach involves migrating some parts of your system to your new platform while keeping other parts on your legacy platform. This approach is suitable if your organization wants to minimize risk and ensure continuity of operations during the migration process.

Re-implementation Migration

This approach involves rebuilding your system from scratch on a new platform or architecture. This approach is suitable if your systems are outdated or no longer meet the needs of your organization.

PLM Migration Methodology

The product lifecycle management migration process involves transferring data, configurations, and functionality from one PLM system to another. 

1. Planning

Start by defining the objectives, scope, and timeline of the migration project. Identify the data and functionality that need to be migrated, and establish a clear migration strategy.

4. Configuration and Customization

Configure and customize the target PLM system to align with the organization's specific requirements. This may involve setting up workflows, permissions, data attributes, and any customizations needed to match the functionality of the source system.

2. Data Assessment and Mapping

Evaluate the source PLM system's data structure, including product records, BOMs, documents, CAD files, and other relevant information. Map the data elements from the source system to the corresponding elements in the target PLM system.

3. Data Prep and Cleansing

Cleanse and prepare the data to ensure its quality and integrity. This may involve removing duplicate records, standardizing data formats, and resolving any inconsistencies or errors.

5. Data Migration and Extraction

Execute the actual migration by transferring the data from the source system to the target system. This can be done using various methods, such as direct database transfers, data extraction and transformation, or integration tools.

Data migration is the process of converting data from one or more formats into another. This can be a two-step procedure, in which you move your existing information while also changing its storage location; though it’s not always necessary to do this at once because some companies may choose only certain parts (such as just records) during an initial conversion and leave others behind for future use with their evolving applications software systems requirements

Migrating your data is a time-consuming and sometimes tedious process. The Domain migration team could take up to 20 business days from start-to finish, but it’s worth every second of those five or seven extra working hours because when you import all that new information into one system everything falls into place! If there are any inconsistencies in what was sent over during the original conversion phase then we’ll have our staff investigate further before finally tidy’ing things up for you if desired by client request; no project should go without some additional tidying work being done where possible – especially since this can reduce costs associated with repeat invoicing down the line too

Your data import will begin once your migration specialist has been granted access to the data. This request is sent from our company in order for us to have complete control over what information goes into the system and how it’s structured, so that we can ensure a smooth user experience! We cannot send these requests anywhere else but through an account holder’s assigned email address which helps prevent any suspicious activity like hacking or identity theft as well protects their privacy at all times during this process

What a great question! We advise that the original system continues to be used and operational until data migration is signed off as correct. This means there’s no disruption in services, only when everyone involved with this project has approved of its completion does an official copy taken from your current database get converted into ours so we can continue operating without any hiccups or delays caused by human error along the way too.
